I want to be a Native American. Which costume do you think I should get? I guess you can say I'm more of a 'pear' shape so whatever you think would be most flattering. A So your school mascot is an Indian?! Before I go off on how *wrong* that is to stereotype an entire race of people and how it is NOT an honor, etc., let me give you some tips: I was born an American Indian and I had ZERO clothes on when that happened. When I wear a bathing suit, I am an American Indian. When I wear my work uniform, I am still an American Indian. Today I am wearing a tan sweater, skinny jeans and Uggs. Guess what? I'm still an American Indian. My daughter, who is 3 and has also been an American Indian since the day she was born, is wearing a zebra print top. I like to read and shop. She likes to play in her pretend kitchen. So, in case you're trying to portray us Native people, how about going in your everyday clothes with some books about American Indians. Spread some knowledge, not stereotypes.
