Indians Costume

- Native American/Indian girl costume help!?
So i was thinking of being a native american indian girl for halloween this year but i wasn't sure how to do it. I don't really like the store costumes for it. I want to do it simple and hopefully cheap so I was wondering what you think i should buy/wear to make it a cute nat amer indian girl costume. I'm a freshman in high school so i don't want anything slutty so don't be gross please. Thanks :) To the first person that answered: I wasn't trying to be racist...I'm Native american too (Cherokee). I'm not making fun of them. Wearing the "ghetto costume" like you suggested would be. And they have costumes for it at Party city, so don't blame me, I just thought it'd be cute..sorry if i offended Ok now you're offending. I am Cherokee.. I used to get letters from my school saying I can get free lunch programs (I don't need them though) because my records show that i AM cherokee. Don't get mad at me just because you're angry about what happened in the 1800's or whatever. It's over and done with and people dont treat native americans badly like they treat other races and cultures badly.

- is dressing like an indian for halloween racist?
My friend and I both have horses, so we thought that it would be fun to paint our horses like indian horses and dress up like indains. We would never try to offend anyone at all. We would try to be as accurate and respecetful to indian culture, so our horses would have circles around their eyes and dots and a hand print on their back rump. We would maybe also put some feathers in their hair. We would have on a poncho and ugg boots(we don't have indian boots) and have our hair in braids. We would wear black or brown leggings for pants and we would dress very modestly and not show any skin like some native american costumes do. Our costumes are very simple and modest, but are not as fancy and detailed as real native american indian costumes. Would some poeple find this offensive? Also, do you have any tips for makingn our costumes an "accurate reanacment" of past native americans and not an innacurate steryotype costume if you do think that it's ok to dress like native american indains? In history class we have been watching movies about native american indians and i love their relationships with their horses and their clothing, i'm not disrespecting them in any way.

A I'm dressing up as a Punk Rock Fairy for Halloween, and I'm American Indian, so I can't say anything to you. However, I don't even own the first costume of my tribe. I don't look good in rick-rack and calico and I refuse to wear an apron, so what do I know?
